Mr. Javed Afzal
Provincial Chief (Punjab), SMEDA
Mr. Muhammad Javed Afzal has earned more than 25 years of progressive professional experience in SME Development, Project Management, Training and Capacity Building, Trade & Investment Promotion, Donors Coordination, Development of International & Local Networking and Linkages while working with different organizations in Pakistan and for a number of Projects with counterpart International Donor Organizations. Presently, he is working as Provincial Chief (Punjab), SMEDA and mainly supervising the programs, activities and projects of SMEDA in Punjab. He is also SMEDA‘s Sector Lead for Light Engineering Sector and Fruits & Vegetables Sector - Potato Clusters with focus on analyzing the value chains of the sectors and developing strategies for developing and promoting these sectors. During early part of the career in SMEDA, he also led the Training Services Department of SMEDA, primarily meant for capacity building of SMEs in coordination with Federal, Provincial and Regional Governments, International Organizations and the Donors working on capacity building of SMEs in the country.
Prior to joining SMEDA in 2005, he led the TEVTA Team at District level where he was responsible for managing TEVTA Institutions in Jhang and Toba Tek Singh districts. Whereas, he started his professional career in 1991 in United Refrigeration Industries Pvt. Ltd., which is one of the leading industrial groups in Pakistan. Whilst working for a number of organizations, Mr. Javed earned extensive, diverse and rich professional experience of public sector as well as private sector.
Mr. Javed holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Mechanical Engineering, supplemented by a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He is experienced to take initiatives depending on the judgment and optimum utilization of available resources and is commercially astute. He is capable of leading team and has a strong experience of operational and programme management. Mr. Javed’s educational qualifications, trainings attended, knowledge about the local businesses and progressive and diverse experience in the country can dovetail strategic work plans and programme implementation for future endeavours.
